The quiet case for a daily walk

The most underrated intervention in wellness costs nothing and asks very little of you.

If I could prescribe one thing outside the hospital, it would be a daily walk. Not a workout, not a step goal, just time moving outdoors at a conversational pace.

What it does

Walking supports blood sugar, blood pressure, mood, digestion, and sleep. Few interventions touch that many systems with so little cost or risk.

How to start when you have no time

Ten minutes after a meal is genuinely worthwhile. Park further away. Take the call outside. The best version is the one that fits into the day you already have.

The walk you take most days matters far more than the workout you plan for someday.

New chest pain, unusual breathlessness, or dizziness with activity are reasons to be evaluated before increasing exercise.
